Boing goes the spring....
And where it went; I do not know. Spent a couple of hours over a couple of days trying to find it too. So - somewhere in the Pikes Peak forest; my spring still resides. Tried my best to leave no trace; yet my spring; it had sprung. Purchased the kit; replaced my spring, and back in action. Replaced the spring retainer a few trips later on a different lantern, so good. Got two uses out of one kit. VW Campervan fwiw; and at about 50watts of heat per candle; they do provide both light; and a little bit of heat in the fall and (heh) spring seasons. Thanks!
