It encases the lantern completely and, with no zippers or snaps, it slides on easily and provides ¼" of cushioning around the lantern.
CAUTION: Allow your lantern to cool thoroughly before placing in Cocoon.

Great light
This is one of the best lights you can buy. Its small works great. the case is a nice idea as well. I put one of these in my camping gear, hunting gear and in the winter in our cars. The size weight are perfect.
